2004:
CiC was born and rallied in NYC in protest of increasing c-section rates!
2005:
CiC launched an initiative bringing all NYC hospitals into 100% compliance w/ the Maternity Information Act!
2006:
CiC released the first Guide to a Healthy Birth. Approximately 210,000 copies have been distributed in all 50 states!
2007:
CiC hosted our 1st monthly All About Birth: Workshop for Expecting Parents. We’ve served nearly 1,000 women and families to date– and counting!
2008:
CiC hosted a Birth Fair launching The Birth Survey, an Angie’s List for birth; co-created with Coalition for Improving Maternity Services; piloted by CiC in NYC!
2009:
CiC joined forces with the NYC Midwives to co-present Miles for Midwives, an annual 5k family fun-run in Prospect Park!
2010:
CiC-lead consumer advocacy initiatives helps get Midwifery Modernization Act passed increasing midwifery care access in NY.
2011:
CiC helped found NY Coalition for Doula Access and submits a “Doulas for All” proposal calling for Medicaid reimbursement for doula care.
2012:
CiC partnered with Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein to launch educational program, The Business of Being Born: Classroom Edition. To date, nearly 5,000 students have viewed the film.
2013:
CiC focused on consumer advocacy demanding the reopening of Labor and Delivery services at North Central Bronx Hospital as well as petitioning City Council for funds to expand access to doula care for at risk moms and babies.
2014:
CiC re-focused our work on policy reform with Doula Care in New York City: Advancing the Goals of Health Care Reform.
2015:
CiC continues its policy work with a New York statewide report focusing on midwifery care.
